Sitting, Watching, Praying

Filed under: Just Me — dawn @ 1:10 am

There is not much to say, as we watch in awe of the terror that has gripped the stricken states that Katrina has visited. To say that I am saddened, would be an understatement. I am shocked at the amount of destruction that this storm has wrecked in the past days. What Katrina didn’t take during the height of the storm, the water took yesturday.

My prayers today have and will be with those who are trying to make it through this storm and its aftermath.

I rarely do this, but I am adding to this post. This morning (1:30am) I took Socks (my cat) out for our nightly stroll. Socks was out the door before I, but almost immediately, he sensed something strange. The wind has picked up, the clouds are speeding across the sky, the humidity has risen quite a bit…Katrina is here. Not the terrible storm that was responsible for so much heartbreak, the remnants are now over the midwest and northeast and bringing the memory of her to us. The winds are just a figment of their earlier strength; the rain just a lingering memory of what was a torrent. Earlier today, there was no wind, not even a breeze, but there was also no birds flying about, it is almost as if the animals knew something was coming and that she was not very nice. Socks did not settle the whole time he was outside, I petted him and his muscles were all tense. I didn’t have any trouble tonight getting him to go inside…

Hi ! Greetings for such a beautiful site.In fact i linked to your site from Mama mouse site .
I’m writing to you from miles away, from an old country ,Iran.
I sincerely wish and pray that Katrina crisis ends up earlier with less damages to people.
Abbas

Hello! I am always happy to meet new people and it still amazes me that so many people can see what I do here. I Love Mama Mouses sites, she always has thought provoking posts to read. Katrina left a real big mess down in the south, Lots of people were left without homes, and possessions other than what they could grab as they raced out of their homes, before the water got to deep. The pictures are horrible. Here whe has brought some strong winds and downpours, but at this point she is only a whisper compaired the screaming she did before. I too have had my thoughts and prayers with those who were affected by this storm.

It always amazes me how animals have that uncanny knowledge of something awry. If we could only take heed from them and get the hell out of dodge just like them, I’m sure we’d be better off. Great site you have here.

It is some sort of a sixth-sense, that lets them know danger lurks. I have noticed, especially with my cats, that they do have the ability to know when to get out of a dangerious situation. It has been a while since I have had a cat, and Socks actions last night reminded me that we should pay closer attention to our pets. Thank you for visiting here, I am glad you liked the site.

Katrina hit Miami late last Thursday and I didn’t expect it to do as much damage as it did. I was here for Hurricane Andrew and that was so much worse; my heart goes out to the folks in Louisiana!

Katrina is gasping for breath now, but she really made a mess for alot of people. I am glad that you and your family made it through with little difficulty. As I watch the toothpicks that we call trees in my yard sway, my thoughts are with those who were less fortunate…

Thank you for stopping by my site.

I am totally shocked and have shed many tears. I do not know anyone in any of the affected areas … at least that I am aware of. But to watch these people who have no homes left, no clothes, no food, no water, no sanitation, no jobs and not even access to their bank accounts or communication with the outside world is to watch a horrible thing. On a small scale it is devastating. On the scale it has been seen this week is beyond devastating … it is simply overwhelming.

How these people will ever get back their lives is beyond me. Those that left before the storm have nothing to go back to … and the ones that stayed either died or have to leave now because there is nothing left.

This was not a good week … yesterday nearly a thousand people lost their lives while making a pilgrimage to a shrine in Baghdad. How sad … all because someone yelled that their was a suicide bomber in the crowd of many thousands if not millions walking to this holy place. Suffering seems to be the only thing in our minds today.

Abbas … how nice to see you here!

It has been a tragic week. So much sadness. I couldnt bear to turn on the TV this morning…

Hi again,I’m also happy of having such a nice pacifism friends around me .
For sure Mama mouse is a key roll in this loop of friendships.

You are always welcome here, politics aside(only because I do not want my site to be politcal or religious), I accept all people. We don’t live in isolation, this is a global community, and the world would be a better place if we all got along (or tried to).

I’m trying to somehow find a way through some organization go down there and volunteer; almost all the organizations here are too busy to even see anyone new, or simply not interested in sending more people are they already have sent a “convoy” of people and don’t want more work.

I don’t know about your area, but here in my state, the Red Cross is training people now to go down in 10 day shifts to help with everything from handing out food to providing medical/mental health care. I don’t know if that is a possibility for you, but that was what was on the news here last night. I have gone through the kids closets and dressers and we are finding more and more clothes to donate to the Salvation Army. There is also a call for tents/tarps, and non-perishable items. I wish I could do more…
