my possessed computer

Filed under: Just Me — dawn @ 9:56 pm

This week has been kinda crazy on the computer side of life. I have been having problems with Mozilla. The last update (1.5.0.6) really didnt go over well…and I am not the only one. Their forum is full of people with problems.

So, while trying to fix Mozilla, I tried something my hubby had downloaded…Maxthon. It isnt bad, I do like certain aspects of it but there were so many things that just ticked me off. So after successfully installing Mozilla 1.5.0.4 again on my computer. I decided to get rid of the Maxthon. As many would do, I went into “Add/Remove Programs” and uninstalled it. I then tried to open a link that I was sent from my hubby (oddly enough it was the link to Mozilla) and Maxthon opened!!!!

I was shocked, to say the least. Something that I had uninstalled, once again opened on my computer! I had to completely remove the program from the registry, dump the trash, and search for any file with the Maxthon name in it and delete them too.

So, my lesson for today is….Updates/upgrades are EVIL (my Eldests favorite word). Turn off the automatic updates, and whatever you do, if you think that you have uninstalled something…make sure to search for the programs name and delete that too.

I am happy now…shocked, but happy.

I suggest you use this program its free for 30 days. On a first try it will remove an average of over 500 errors that mess up your computer … http://www.tune-up.com/

I tried it, but it didnt work well with my computer, it took out a bunch of things that I do need. Thank you though

IF you were on a Mac, I would recommend downloading the latest BETA verison of Firefox. But since you’re not, good luck with your ghost of a computer.

hickey

thank you for the info, I am not running a Mac, so that will not work
