I didn't know this about cats and FIV. Thanks for writing this. I already have two cats in a small apartment, but if/when I were to think about adopting again, I would consider adopting an FIV+ cat. Your cats are adorable, by the way.

I sent a reply to you by e-mail

I am happy to hear that you would consider making a FIV+ a part of your family. I do have to caution you though. Please dont put your cats at risk. It is suggested that if you do not have an FIV+ cat in your home, that you shouldnt bring one in. Cats being what they are, when you bring a new one in, they will probably get in a little scuffle, to determine who is boss. That would put your cats at risk.

Having said that...though, if you were to find that one of your cats becomes FIV+, many vets are not worried that your other cats will get it. As established cats do not tend to fight, your other cats probably will not get FIV.

Thank you again. I went online last night and searched Pet Finder. It is heartbreaking to see the numbers of FIV. FeLV, and FIP cats that are out there. Many of them are just carriers, but because they can infect other cats they should not be adopted by a household of healthy cats.

If you ever have any questions about FIV, Please feel free to write me again. I am not an "expert" by any stretch of the imagination. But I have done a ton of reading and might be able to find it for you.

It is good to know that there is someone else, who knows the truth and is willing to give and FIV+ cat a home.

I used to volunteer for an agency that would not take in FIV+ cats. When they inadvertently did, they shipped him off to a foster home , and have abandoned him there. Thankfully the foster family will care for him until they find him a good home.

His name is Dakota, and he is a very affectionate guy, and hopefully will stay healthy for a long time to come.

we are a special breed of people. It is to bad that there are not more of us out there

Stopped by thru BE. Had to comment, having 4 kids, I mean cats of my own. My first cat had FeLiv, and she lived as a carrier until the age of 12, when I had to have her euthanized because her kidneys failed. I don't like when people are afraid to adopt cats that have it. I had 4 other cats that were vaccinated, and to this day test negative, despite the fact that they all cuddled and bathed each other.

ps. your cats are adorable

My cats!

Your cats are adorable too! It is sad that people do not understand that these cats are able to live long lives...and are instead put to sleep
