Depending on where she decides to go, we might get something from Ophelia. We haven’t had rain in over 2 weeks (since Katrina) and could use some rain. We wouldnt mind getting spared the wind…but we really need the rain. I was watching the news earlier, and was reminded of Ophelia, from Shakespear’s Hamlet.
Ophelia appears in Shakespeare’s Hamlet. She is Hamlet’s lover. She watches the development of his apparent madness, suffers his coldness and strange behavior as he rejects and humiliates her (part of his strategem to make good his claim of insanity,) she is used by her father as a pawn towards manipulating Hamlet, and then finally, discovers that her beloved has violently murdered her father. In the face of this, Ophelia falls into (genuine) madness, and eventually drowns herself.
The newsperson stated that Ophelia was perhaps not the best name for a hurricane, and I have to admit, that I agree. Hopefully, this Ophelia, doesn’t take anyone with her into the water…

Stay safe! You are in my prayers. Please let us know when Ophelia has passed and you are again able to post (that is if you don’t lose power).
We are getting some storms now, but nothing like the carolinas are getting. At this point they are predicting that she will go off the the east of us (I am in Connecticut). We really do need the rain and it has been storming here since about 3:30 am, this morning. There is a line of thunderstorms moving towards where I am now, but this is nothing compared to Ophelia. I dont think we will lose power to easily, my town rarely loses power…but we will have to see. I will keep posting while I can.

Ophelia doesn’t sound like a hurricane name. But, neither does Katrina. Now, Ivan, that’s a good hurricane name. Hope Ophelia loses strength soon!
So do I. They are saying that she is moving so slowly that at this point she will be hitting North Carolina for another 24-36 hours.

I hope it doesn’t follow its other cousin on the same path. Good luck to you, and hope the necessary precautions have already been taken by the city officials.
Nope, Ophelia went right up the coast as they said that she would. We did get the rain we needed and it seems we did miss most of the wind. Got some really bad thunderstorms this afternoon, but that had more to do with the cold front that came through…Windows will be open tonight
