Finally Finished

Filed under: Crochet and Crafts — dawn @ 3:46 am

I have finally gotten past the last few rows and in the wee hours of this morning, I was able to finish the Angel.

It still needs to be blocked (kind of like ironing, but without the iron), and I will have to decide how I will give it to my friend. My thoughts at this time are to put it on fabric and frame it. If I make a pillow case when I mount it, then she can unframe it if she wishes.

I am very happy to be done with the angel, this is the largest fillet crochet that I have worked on to date, and I did take time off while working on it. I will have to make another 2 soon, as I actually have my first real ‘order’! But, considering that it is now 3:44 in the morning, I really need to try to sleep.

The pattern can be found Here.

Prediction proves correct…sadly

Filed under: I told you so..., Just Me — dawn @ 4:50 pm

Today, I got a trackback to a post that I had written way back in the beginning of August… Hurricane Season to be worse than previously thought.

I went back and read the post and all the comments. At the time of the post, there had been 7 named storms and they were predicting another 11 to 14 storms. I don’t know if they had any idea of what would happened during Katrina or Rita, how strong the storms were, but they certainly did know something was up. I am hopeful that Wilma picks a path that causes the least amount of damage possible. But with what has happened, I think we all need to be prepared for the worst, and hope for the best.

He made a break for it…

Filed under: Cats, critters and other pets, General — dawn @ 6:13 pm

Time to call in the bloodhounds, the sneaky Socks, managed to actually get away this afternoon. I don’t expect to see him for a few hours. He is off smelling all the wonderful fall smells. This is probably for the best, though he really shouldn’t be outside. But the last few nights he has decided that he really wants to go out at about 3am, and he is going to let all of us know it, whether we want to listen or not. This lasts about 2 hours and wakes all of us. Last night I was able to get about 3 hours of sleep, and I am only awake due to the high dosages of caffine administered regularily.

I am hopefull that his little adventure outside tonight, wears him out enough that he sleeps through tonight… I know, that is a little to much to pray for, but I really need to sleep.

**UPDATE**

Socks came home a little after 10 tonight, after about 5 hours out. He appears to be in one piece and without injury. Now I just hope that his being out ‘on the town’, makes him tired enough that he will sleep through the night and not waking us all up at 3 am.

Socks the Escapee

Filed under: Cats, critters and other pets — dawn @ 11:19 pm

Today, socks was able to escape out of a closed bedroom and out the front door of my apartment. I know that the doors were shut and that the latches had engaged, so I am not exactly sure just how he was able to manage to open the doors. I think that he was able to open the front door by pulling the door handle on the door, it is a lever style handle. I did hear him moving the door handle before he was able to get the door open, and I just thought that one of the kids had gone into the house without my noticing. I know that he can get the door open by using his paws to pull on the weatherstrip on the inside of the door, though I didnt think that he would be able to get the door open as the weatherstripping on the bottom of the door makes it difficult to open and close. Oh well.

sleep

Filed under: General, Just Me — dawn @ 10:28 pm

I don’t think my sleep schedule could be any more messed up. I couldn’t sleep all last night, so when 7 am came, I decided to just wake up and go to sleep once I had dropped my son off at school. I came home and slept from about 9am to 2pm. I am tired now, but I can’t seem to fall asleep.

Another Project

Filed under: Crochet and Crafts — dawn @ 12:51 am

I should really finish my previous projects before getting inspired to start new ones. I came up with another filit crochet project…this one a bookmark. I am determined to finish the angel before starting the bookmark. I have about 15 rows left before the angel is finished. I did sketch the bookmark out though and will post it later.

Lazy day

Filed under: Just Me — dawn @ 11:52 pm

I like lazy days. Days where I can sleep if I want, I can take time to cook a decent meal, and just enjoy my family without having to run here and there. Add to that, the sun finally came out after 10 days of rain. Overall it was a good day, and I am still connected to write about it.

Oh, and before I forget…

Filed under: Just Me — dawn @ 2:18 am

Hello everyone…

My absentee posting will most likely become an almost permenant thing in the next week or so. We are undergoing financial difficulties and the luxury of having the internet, cable TV and unfortunately enough, the telephone will have to be terminated. I am not sure when the turnoff will occur, but I can say for sure, that unless a miracle occurs, I will be offline for a while.

I will post untill then and when I can…probably from the library

Laters, Dawn

And More Rain

Filed under: General — dawn @ 11:22 pm

7 days of no sun and lots of rain has definately made sure that we are no longer in a daught…but now we are worried about flooding.

“GREENWICH, Conn. — Flooding concerns have prompted Gov. Jodi Rell to order inspections of rivers, dams and streams.

Rell says the Connecticut River was below flood stage Thursday morning after several soggy days. But rain is continuing to fall.

Rell says inspectors will check dams and other structures to make sure they are not compromised or at risk of overflow.

Most flooding in Connecticut has been minor to moderate, but state officials are monitoring several rivers in Fairfield County.

Greenwich First Selectman James Lash says officials declared a local state of emergency Wednesday night as dams on the Byram River filled to high levels.

Officials also issued an evacuation warning telling residents to prepare to leave and brought in rescue boats, but evacuations were not necessary as the water receded.

Lash says the evacuation warning was lifted Thursday. But the local state of emergency will probably remain in place until Friday as officials monitor how the dams handle additional rain.”

There is more rain on the way too…

…good news though, is that we will hopefully see sunshine by late Saturday.

(nope, nothing but the rain)

FEMA’s ice makes happy polar bears

Filed under: Just Me — dawn @ 1:23 am

We all know about FEMA’s Ice problems. So many are suffering and FEMA can’t even get their acts together to get these people, who have lost everything…Ice. It almost seems like they have hired some of the residents of the local zoo’s to run FEMA lately.

And speaking of Zoo’s…after driving “more than 4,000 miles across 22 states”, a truck driver finally had enough (I dont blame him to tell you the truth. It is difficult enough to drive a truck [been there, done that] but to think that you are able to help those in need, and then be sent for a sight-seeing tour of the US…that is enough to tick off even the most patient drivers) Anyways, the truck driver donated the ice to a food bank and a zoo in Arizona. Which leads to another important question…why send Ice to one of the warmest places in the US to store it? Oh well, at least Boris got to enjoy it.

I love the article…You can read more Here.
