kittens and cats…and kids

Well, I didnt get any pictures of the kittens the other day. Clarence, the larger of the two, went home with his new “Mom”. Clarence is a beautiful approximately 6 month old kitten. He is cross-eyed…hence the name Clarence. But little Jim (I had an idea for another name for him, but forgot it when I got todays migraine), became sick just before he was to be picked up. I took him to the vet instead. He is now on anti-biotics and he is doing a little better now. I will have him for a few more days, untill he is doing better. But because Jim is still not well and I can not bring him upstairs, I have not had any instance to take pictures. I can not take any chances with my cats so the kitten has to be kept away from them. I do go down to visit with Jim several times a day, to check on him and also to spend some “play-time” with him. He is about 6 to 9 weeks old and very playfull. Hopefully, I will have a chance before Jim goes to his new home.

I do have a few pictures of Bruno, I let him out onto the sunporch, so he would be able to get some fresh air and have a break from the basement. With having Jim in the basement, quarenteened in a corner, I can not let Bruno have this regular “out” time, which he is so used to. I really can not take a chance of my cats, and Bruno, getting sick. FIV cats are so much more suseptable to sicknesses, and must be kept clear of sick kittens if at all possible. So, Bruno gets to have his afternoons on the porch, in the sunshine, whenever possible.

My kids have gone from the “vacations are cool” to the “I’m bored” and “I cant wait to go back to school”. Eldest has opened a good portion of her new presents, including one that she worked on all day. She wants to be a paleontologist, so I got her another “dig up the dinosaur” project. This one was much more difficult that she expected, and probably more of a learning experience. The plastic dinosaur bones were encased in a hard chalk, and she had to chip slowly away at it. She did finally finish and I think that the velociraptor is now assembled.

Youngest was given quite a few science type gifts, so this evening Hubby and Youngest sat down to make crystals. Though Hubby had to help out with just about every step, Youngest was very excited to help out. Youngest even got to wear his “safety goggles”. Youngest was also given some solar system projects. one of which shines a star map onto his ceiling. Other than that, Youngest has now finished filling his 4th notebook with his “comic book” drawings of “Fishman”.

Well, that is about all the news from here for now…more later.

Braving the stores one last time

Filed under: Just Me — dawn @ 2:28 am

I am going out later this morning to brave the stores one more time. I just need the last minute things, and I plan to go right after dropping Youngest off for school. I have been putting this off for a couple days, and hopefully I will not have to go out till after the holidays.

Patches

Filed under: Cats, critters and other pets — dawn @ 4:13 am

Yesterday, I was able to help in a very small way to help Patches go to her Furr-ever home.

Well, as promised…here are the pictures. I didnt have a long time to take them so, they arnt as good as I would have liked. My camera is awsome, but when I take pictures of the cats, I use the camera attached to my computer, so that I can use my computer to help with the ISO and flash. These pictures were taken without the computer, as I didnt have the time I would have liked. But they are still nice.

quiet night

…I am in the room with 3 fluffy purring kitties, and it makes me so happy. Yesterday, I was able to have another chance to be at an “adoption”…Patches is such a sweet little girl. Even after I gave her a bath (she really wasnt happy about that), she curled up in my lap. I gave her the opportunity to hop down, but she just wanted to be where she was loved. I know that the family who has her now will give her lots and lots of love.

yes, I took pictures…I will post them tomorrow…er, later today

Local readership

Filed under: Just Me — dawn @ 3:15 am

I understand that I have a few “local readers” (ok, at least 1). I am flattered…though a little mystified…but that is normal.

Thanks for reading!

PS. I will talk with hubby further about the lunch issue

I found it!

Filed under: Cats, critters and other pets, Just Me — dawn @ 1:03 am

My little glimmer of Christmas Spirit. Believe it or not, it was brought to me by…MiMi

MiMi has a wonderful, but sad story. She is about 3 or 4 years old, and she was declawed, which means that she can not defend herself. Her previous owners (if you can call them that) dropped her off at a shelter, she had, and still has scabs and scars all over her face and neck. It is thought that the injuries are thought to be by either another cat or dog.
.
.

MiMi is scared of other cats, and I dont blame her. She needed a nice home with older people, where she could be pampered, spoiled, and just plain loved. She spent 4 days at my home, on her way to her new home, and I was given the pleasure of taking care of her. MiMi was so sweet. she is so accepting and just craves love. The pictures of her in this post were taken by me, while she sat with me on the couch.
.

She only wanted one thing from me, love. Knowing that she was going to her furr-ever home, was wonderful. As much love as I gave to her, she gave so much back to me. Look into those eyes and you can see she just wants to be with you. It isnt much, but it was so precious to me. As she layed on the couch next to me, I think she did more for me than I could ever do for her.
.
.

I have been fostering cats for about a year now. I have to admit that it is both the most rewarding and the most frustrating thing I have done in a long time. I know that the cats I have here are wonderful, that they would make great additions to many homes and make many people really happy. But more often than not, my foster cats are not chosen. My cats and foster furr-babies have FIV which makes it very difficult to place them. As a matter of fact, my first foster is now my third cat, Blackie!

I think I have now found my Christmas Spirit, it came in the form of a little girl kitty.
